Private Bass Instruction

Bassist Miko Español was born and raised in the Philippines. He started playing the bass at age 17 and was immediately influenced by the music of Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Tribal Tech, Return To Forever, Chick Corea, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis. With determination and a natural ability to learn anything musical, Miko quickly became a fixture in the Philippine music scene and was performing with artists and groups such as Parliament Syndicate, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Kyla, Nino Alejandro, and Soul Food to name a few.

Since relocating to Southern California in 2003, Miko’s versatility allowed him to work comfortably in many musical genres including jazz, funk, fusion, pop, R&B, rock, Latin, and even Christian contemporary music. He is constantly performing and recording throughout the United States with artists and groups such as Garrett Morris, Bill Maxwell, Chris Coleman, Yohei Nakamura, Abe Lagrimas Jr, Bill Cantos, The Hour of Power Orchestra, Ron Kobayashi, Hitchhiker, Freddie Colloca, Luigi Castro, Iglu & Hartly, Dark Sunday, MPG, Ella May Saison, Ner de Leon, Tateng Katindig, Jazmin, Guy Penrod, Selah. From 2005-2008, his own jazz-fusion trio was the house band for Saturday Night Live legend Garrett Morris' Downtown Comedy Club in Los Angeles. In 2007, Miko started playing bass for the Crystal Cathedral (www.crystalcathedral.org), Robert Schuller's mega-chruch. He holds down the bass chair at the Crystal Cathedral Contemporary services, the Crystal Cathedral Hispanic Group led by Dante Gebel, and the Hour of Power Orchestra.

Miko is an endorser for Alleva Coppolo Basses, Black Diamond Strings, and the Kala U-Bass. He currently lives in Seal Beach, California, USA.
