Patrick Trejo

Having just earned a Bachelor's Degree of music in vocal performance from the University of Southern California, Patrick Trejo is very excited to be joining the staff of premier music. During his time at USC, Patrick has taken courses in vocal pedagogy, the study of the voice, focusing on how the voice works and teaching techniques. He has also had coursework in diction, music theory, music history, choral conducting, and the Broadway Musical.

Although his focus over the past few years has been mainly in the classical realm or art songs and arias, Patrick has a love of exploring new repertoire. He has performed numerous scenes of musical theatre with the Chamber opera of USC and five operas with the USC Opera department.

His teaching style is very free and basic, focusing on the person. He tries to help the student explore what is occurring with their voice and body related to sound production. Every person is different, coming in with different strengths and weaknesses. Together student and teacher must allow the strengths to bloom and the weaknesses to be overcome. Above all, singing must be fun. Patrick tries to keep lessons fun and inspiring. Singing should never be a chore, but an expression of oneself at the most personal level.

            * With younger singers (under the age of 14) lessons will focus mainly on song interpretation, performance, and basic breathing techniques.

            * For those over 14, we will discuss goals and avenues to explore together. Options are, but not limited to: breathing techniques, voice placement, jaw movement, opening of the sound, as well

Patrick currently teaches Voice at Premier Music on Thursdays...call 714-744-8100 or email premiermusic@sbcglobal.net for available lesson times!
